Dribble, Shoot, and Score!

This season is starting off good for our Fredericktown Blackcat basketball players! In the summer, the players participated in a lot of off-season activities. This summer they took about 30 guys and competed in the Licking Basketball Camp which was located in Branson, MO. It was a great experience for the guys to get to compete against schools they don’t normally compete against, and also it gave the guys an opportunity to work on developing their basketball skills for the upcoming season. Players also had an off-season skill development program that was available to kids that weren’t already involved in a fall sport and wanted to continue to work on their game. They averaged about 10 kids throughout skill development, which was a huge positive for their program. The players used those skills when the games started.

Our first home game was against Kingston. Logan Winkleman (33) scored a three pointer to start off the game. The boys played hard, stole the ball, made some shots, and excited the crowd. We asked Coach Sikes how he believes this season will go; he replied, “This season should be an exciting one. We are currently 3-3 with plenty more opportunities to get some more wins. With the additions of our new gym facility and pep club support, the guys are truly motivated to try to change the expectation of what it means to be a Blackcat basketball player. We have great group of young men who play hard and are exciting to watch.”

This year, Fredericktown High School has gained a brand new gym floor. This is a major plus for our basketball team. The boys have said that they are thankful and amazed at the new designed flooring and Pep Club for cheering them on. The Blackcats have a very busy schedule this season. This December, the varsity team will be participating in the Park Hills Christmas Tournament on the 26th through the 30th, but the time is TBA. On Feburary 3rd to the 10th, the varsity will be playing in the MAAA tournament. Homecoming will be January 19th, and Senior Night will be January 26th. Our varsity players include Logan Winkelman, Brett Seper, David Frazier, Bret Chitwood, Seth Miller, Clark Penuel, Colton Rehkop, Kenny Couch, Chris Lord, Chris Krieger, and Samuel St.Clair. Let this season be the one to make a mark.
