Untitled (Eng III)
an anonymous alienation poem
I’m here today
To show today
My life in Misery
I am at the school
That’s full of Fools
Why do they not see me
I am not 4’2
And neither are you
So, why do you resent me
I’m not that small
Just throw me the ball
Oh, why do you not see me
No one wants me
No one needs me
To play or be around thee
It must be in MSHSAA rules
No matter the Sport,
Kickball
Football
Soccer
Baseball
They whack the ball
But leave me behind
Like I’m not important
To be Alone with Me
“They have the heart to play, just not the size.” This piece is told by a small person who has always wanted to play with everyone else, but the others exclude him. Others assume that because this person is just slightly smaller, he will not be able to do as well as others in a sport, so the others exclude him. The capitalized words are words that affect the narrator the most, showing his constant feelings.
