Veterans Day

Veterans day is a day to honor the veterans that have retired or are serving. The school’s JROTC members held a breakfast banquet for the veterans in town. At the end of the breakfast, Colonel Francis gave a speech and paid his respects to the late Mike Stearley. After Colonel Francis gave his speech, five JROTC members raised a cup to each of the branches of the military.

After the breakfast all of the veterans were taken to the gym. There, the band performed two songs and concert choir performed two songs. The student council handed out key chains to the veterans. After the band performed their last song, student council senior president, Lidia Myers, announced that she would be joining the Air Force.

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938.
