Every year, the Middle and High school choirs perform a festive holiday concert for the community. This year, it was the Thursday before winter break. Middle school choirs, high school mixed choir, and high school concert choir performed various pieces at their winter concert. All three choirs had piano played for them by retired choir teacher, Mrs. Lisa Lewis.

To kick off the concert, 6th grade choir took the stage and sang “Gloria Deo!” arranged by Mary Lynn Lightfoot, “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music, arranged by Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rodgers, and “Under Winter Moon” arranged by Andy Beck. After completing all 3 songs, they exited the stage to make room for the combined 7th and 8th grade choir.

7th and 8th grade performed, “October Twilight” arranged by Casper Christensen, “Scarborough Fair” arranged by Thomas Juneau, and lastly “Hold Fast to Dreams” arranged by Susan Labarr. This performance was jaw-dropping, everyone doing such a great job!

After the wonderful middle school performances, mixed choir conjoined with concert choir to sing, “Homeward bound”, featuring a beautiful solo sang by Halle Adams, arranged by Jay Althouse, “The Stars Are with the Voyager” by Thomas Hood and music by Emily Crocker, and lastly “Two French Noels” arranged by David Waggoner.

Mixed choir exited the stage and concert choir closed up the night. They sang, “Je Le Vous Diray (I’ll Say It Anyway)” arranged by Russell Robinson, “The Old Mill” arranged by Kenneth Riggs, and lastly “Christmas … In About Three Minutes” arranged by Mark Weston.

Many members of the community attended the concert and loved it, giving lots of positive feedback to the choirs! A few days after this event, concert choir had the opportunity to go Christmas Caroling for classes at the High School. With that, they performed for the student body at an assembly to replace the FHS idol. But sadly, for our three seniors: Halle Adams, Ava Hovis, and Troy McGee, these events will only draw their final concert closer.

In the month of March, concert choir will be attending districts and state, with high hopes of getting a 5, the best score. And after the performances of solo and ensemble contestants, who all are going to state competition in May, there is a good chance that the full choir will be fulling their dreams of a 5. We wish them the best of luck and are so happy to see the comeback our music department is making!
