This week in February there have been wildfires across the country, ranging from Texas to Missouri. In this article I will be focusing on Texas and Oklahoma. Wildfires are very dangerous on their own, but when combined with the wind, these fires have been spreading like—well, wildfire. There have been many accounts on these fires, and I cannot put all of them on this story, but these are some of them.
- Ranger Road, Beaver County Oklahoma / Tuesday, February 17: Tuesday afternoon, fire touched grass on Ranger Road in Beaver County, causing evacuation of the area. The fire damaged tens of thousands of acres, making this mega fire one of the largest devastating fires the Sooner State has seen. Fires have even spread to Kansas, causing more evacuations and damages.
- Oldham County, Texas / Tuesday, February 17: In the Panhandle of Texas, there have been fires burning around 9,000 acres of land that led Xcel Energy to shut down power to their customers to reduce the risk of fires. This power outage, along with the strong winds bringing down power lines, has affected around 15,ooo people. Xcel Energy does not plan to turn on the power until the cold front comes through.
- Canadian Bridge Fire in Hutchinson County, Texas / 11:39 a.m. on Thursday February 19: Firefighters are trying to stop this blaze, and two roads are closed. There has been no further information that I could find about this fire.
These wildfires have caused lots of damage and evacuations, but most of the fires have been put out. I would like to give thanks to all of the sources I could find and sympathy to all the family that have been affected by these terrible fires. There are not supposed to be any more fires because there is going to be a cold front coming in this weekend into the next week.
