The Ladycat softball team welcomed many new players this year, whether they were already familiar with the sport or they just wanted to try something new. A total of six new players joined the team, and five players moved up to varsity.  Along with all the new players, the team also gained two new coaches. Mrs. Allgier, who was the assistant coach last year, and who was previously the softball coach for the 2015-2017 seasons, is now the head coach. Miss Young is the new assistant coach; she played softball throughout her high school career at Fredericktown High School.

The Ladycats’ record is standing at 10-12 with only a few games left for the season. The girls have worked their hardest not just at games, but at practices as well, and it definitely seems to be paying off. Still, with a few games left, the girls already have a higher winning rate (83%) than the previous year.

In an interview with Sadie Gibson (11), she said that she liked having Mrs. Allgier as the head coach this year; however, it took her a little bit to get used to it not being Coach Huff. Her favorite memory from this season is when the whole team went to Lambert’s after their Sikeston game, and she made friends with the waiter. Then she and Abby Kinkead (11) told them that it was Mrs. Allgier’s birthday, and they announced it over the intercom. She said she enjoyed her junior year playing softball, and she can’t wait for her senior year next year.

Laynee King (10) stated that her favorite part of the season was getting to make countless memories with the girls, even through the tough practices and the good ones. Next season, she’s looking forward to meeting all the incoming freshmen and seeing what they bring to the team, and just getting better as a team. Her favorite team to play against was North County because they have a lot of talent, and she plays summer ball with most of the girls on their team. She liked having Mrs. Allgier as a coach because she feels like she brings a lot to the team and encourages all the girls to keep going during games even when they’re down. She also always feels like she is the type of person she could go to about anything, and that makes her feel comfortable to go to her on and off the field and just talk about things.
