Beta is an exclusive, national honored society that recognizes students for going above and beyond in academics, leadership, character, service, and the school community. This club is for academic- and creative-minded students that hold high GPAs, are good citizens, and are good leaders. At our school, this club is about giving students opportunities to grow as leaders, serving their community through volunteer projects and activities. The goal is to help our school and community by encouraging responsibility, kindness, commitment, and integrity. When it comes to the rules of Beta, sponsors expect members to maintain strong academic performance, demonstrate good character, serve others through volunteer work, and actively participate in the club’s activities.
Beta participates in many fun activities. They hold monthly meetings during which they discuss their goals and needs; they also take time to socialize with each other. They do community volunteering such as working the concession stands, volunteering at Freakytown, participating in Salvation Army bell-ringing, and supporting different school events like Honor Banquet and homecoming hall decorating. Their biggest activity is the state convention, where they compete in academic and creative competitions.
The first activity Beta is doing this year is Beta Induction. As of right now, they are not sure what the exact date of the induction will be, but they are speculating that it will be during the week of October 13th. Later this year, Mrs. H. Cook and Mrs. A. Cook are planning to take 3-4 of their members with them to the state convention, held in Branson in March 2026. Along with this, they are taking students who earned all of their Beta points to The Fox Theatre to see The Cursed Child. These activities are to reward the members who have worked hard during the year to earn points and make our school better.
The sponsors of this club, Mrs. H. Cook and Mrs. A. Cook, are very dedicated to their roles. It is important to understand why they are involved in this. I had asked them the questions, “Why do you sponsor Beta?” and “Do you enjoy it; if so why?” Here are their responses. Mrs. H. Cook said, “I have sponsored a Beta club in the past and really enjoyed working with motivated, creative students. Seeing a former member make it to state was a really fun experience. I enjoy working with students who want to improve their environment and the lives of others. It gives me a goal as well outside of my normal teaching experience.” Mrs. A. Cook answered, “ I sponsor Beta because I believe it’s important to help students grow as responsible leaders and to encourage them to use their talents to serve others. I really enjoy being a Beta sponsor. It’s rewarding to see students step up, develop their strengths, and make a difference. I’m especially excited to watch our club continue to grow and improve each year.”
With all the information above, I hope you have found a good sense of what Beta is and what they do.
