Prom in 2024 was different here at FHS compared to previous years. For the first time, the event was held off campus, at The Venue at Sawyers Landing. The junior class parents stepped up to host the event, and it was quite a hit. From the location and the decorations to the food, students enjoyed prom much more than they have in the past. One of the main changes of the night was the prom king and queen. When prom was hosted by the school, they didn’t announce the winners until the very end of the night. This year, however, they were announced about halfway through the night, allowing students who did not want to stay the whole night to still see the winners firsthand.
As always, the senior class selected who they believed should be king and queen from the whole class. It was then narrowed down to five choices, in which the junior and senior class could vote together on the winners. The candidates are as listed: Carter Chaney and Grace Lewis; Zander Stephens and Lizzy Cureton; Gavin Graham and Ashley Avalos; Gage Betts and Emmalee Pierson; and Ruben Pirtle and Mariela Vazquez.
About halfway through the night, the event planner, Amy Allgier, paused the music and showcased these dazzling students. As each group was announced, viewers were told some backstory on each student. This included their parents’ names and future plans. After each group concluded their walk, it was time to announce the 2024 king and queen, crowned by Callie Allgier. Both of these students have been nominees for homecoming, but their ultimate goal was prom. The 2024 king is Gage Betts and the 2024 queen is Grace Lewis!
Gage is honored to be chosen, prom king being all he has wanted since the start of the year. Grace has worked hard to get here, and is grateful for her support system, who all worked hard to encourage voting for her. All candidates, homecoming and prom alike, worked so hard throughout the year to get where they are. As graduation has now passed, we want to say congratulations to these amazing students. We hope that you enjoyed your final high school events and had the best prom!
