The FHS Student Council has been hard at work this year, even if we have only been back at school for about two months. “At the beginning of the year we made posters to welcome everyone back. This weekend, we hosted the Homecoming Kickoff event at Azalea Park. We have planned for the Homecoming Pep Rally, Coronation, and Dance. Also, our next goal is to set up the blood drive,” says Linda Yang. Linda has been involved with StuCo since her sophomore year and has helped with so many events she’s lost count!
StuCo has also completed their class elections. Each member had the opportunity to run for President or Vice President of their class. Additionally, they could run for Student Body President, Vice Student Body President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Interior, and Treasurer. The following are the results of the elections:
- Freshmen – Bristol Rehkop: President, Bailey Goforth: Vice President.
- Sophomores – Jackson Follis: President, Khloe Montgomery: Vice President.
- Juniors – Brooklyn Hendrix: President, Laila Stephens: Vice President.
- Seniors – Alyson Collins: Class President, Breonna Cribbs: Vice President, Linda Yang: Student Body President, Shelby Kennedy: Vice Student Body President, Brenna Tucker: Secretary of State, Brooklyn Hendrix: Secretary of Interior, and Laila Stephens: Treasurer. These five positions for the are known by members as “The Big Five,” and they are the primary driving force behind the club.
These jobs are all very important to the operation of StuCo. The President and Vice President of each class represent their classmates when it comes to making decisions within the club. If a member has an idea or an issue, they talk to their leader who will bring it to The Big Five, who will consider it and decide how it would benefit the club or the student body overall. The Big Five, while each job is titled differently, all work together on each job. From tallying people’s points, to taking money at events, to ensuring everyone is having a good time, each position is vital to StuCo’s excellent productivity.
All this being said, when you attend a StuCo event, like the upcoming pep rally or the Homecoming dance or coronation, be sure to thank a StuCo member for their hard work in making this school a better place each and every day!
