Sweetheart is one of the many overlooked things that Fredericktown High School does. Every year FCCLA puts on a dance and coronation with candidates from many different clubs. Sweetheart is always sometime around Valentine’s Day, this year it was on February 23rd.  Last years theme was “Life is Sweet”, the theme this year was “3,2,1 ACTION!” (Hollywood). The candidates for this year were:

FCCLA: Mayce Seabaugh & Dalton Mueller

FTA: Breanna White & Mario Luis Gomez

FFA: Nicole Lawrence & Zach Link

Scholar Bowl: Lidia Myers & Daniel Bathe

BETA: Alexia Pogue & Jake Williams

STUCO: Raegan Asher & Devon Souden

Yearbook: Brezlyn Boswell & Brayden Lee

Each candidate was expected to give a speech about their club/group and the topic of change. Most candidates also mentioned what they wanted to do in the future. Many of the couples put a lot of thought into their presentations, but that’s not the only thing that goes into judging them and choosing a winner. “The interview is a very important way to learn how to present themselves to people, skills they can use for job or college interviews in the future,” Mrs. Mungle said, “Public speaking is another important skill needed for leadership roles in school as well as careers.”

Everyone that participated did a wonderful job and the judges had a very difficult decision to make.  Lidia gave an impressive speech on scholar bowl: here is an excerpt of it, “The quick thinking, random knowledge and the quick press of the thumb are things that we not only need in scholar bowl but it’s things that we have to know in order to succeed,” Myers said. “Can you imagine the ‘Big Bang Theory’ without Sheldon Cooper? That would be this school without us little brainiacs coming up with crazy answers.”

Daniel Bathe and Lidia Myers, representing Scholar Bowl were crowned king and queen.
