At the beginning of the second semester, Fredericktown High School welcomed our new nurse, Dean Stevens. Outside of school, Dean’s first job was baling hay for Custom Hay, but today he serves as a chief for the CPFD—Cherokee Pass Fire Department. After working as a paramedic for the ambulance district for 20 years, Dean sought a change of pace and wanted to switch to workday shifts. It is his first time working as a nurse in an office. This year he advises kids to drink more water, mentioning that he advises around 90 percent of people that come into his office the same advice, to drink fewer energy drinks. His suggestions for kids that want to become nurses or paramedics is this: “Volunteer for your local district and contact the EMS or medical center for job opportunities to see if it is something you like doing.” He also advises doing something in healthcare and public service. Stevens is connected to the high school through Teagan Stevens, who is his daughter and a junior at the high school.
