The Wooden Bat Tournament is an event that brings all retired baseball players in town together to watch their hometown team continue their baseball legacy. Last year’s tournament (2023) our Blackcats baseball team played Grandview and De Soto and won. They then played Saint Pius and unfortunately lost, but they didn’t let that hold them back.
Friday, April 12, 2024, the Fredericktown Blackcats baseball team played their first game in the Wooden Bat Tournament. The Rock Wall stands stayed full throughout the baseball season, and this year’s annual tournament was held in Fredericktown at the same field. On the first day of the tournament, our baseball team played against Kelly Hawks and won 6-0, a lot of pressure for the pitcher, but the team played hard and still won.
The second day our baseball team lost 6-12 to St. Pius, and later to De Soto, 5-6. Although they didn’t place first in the Wooden Bat tournament, they are nearly undefeated in district games, only losing once out of 11 games. Easton Wood hit the only homer of the tournament.
So far this year our boys baseball team has had an awesome season, winning nearly all of their games. Many of this year’s players have grown up playing baseball together. They have great communication and support each other, making them a better team. Most of the boys on the team have played baseball together on traveling teams like the Birds, which has helped them to grow into the team that they are today. It will be a thrill to see what the future games of this season will bring.
