When I last spoke with the FHS cheerleaders, they were hard at work throughout football season with their tiny but mighty team. Their coach, Ms. Moon, reached out to share some information and some of the team’s favorite things about basketball season. Here’s what she had to say about the team’s growth and progress since football season: “The FHS Cheer team had a wonderful basketball season. The team grew from three members to seven. Not only did the team grow in numbers, but they worked diligently to improve their skills this season in stunting, cheers and motions, and becoming good teammates.” Coach Moon is very proud of her team and how far they’ve come this year.
She went on to mention the fan-favorite cheer from basketball: “We have a lot of fun cheers, but the student section always seems to love ‘Rowdy’. The team now does an assisted cartwheel with that cheer.” When I asked what the team’s most challenging moment has been, Coach Moon responded “Our biggest challenge this season has been our homecoming routine. The team worked on this routine from late November until the end of January. I was very proud of how hard the team worked on this and how well their performances went.”
Finally, I asked if she or the team have had a favorite moment throughout the season. Coach Moon told me that “It’s definitely difficult to choose a favorite, but my one of favorite moments was when the FHS team went to MAC to cheer with the MAC cheerleaders. They got to perform stunts, work with the college cheerleaders, and have fun. All around, I couldn’t have asked for a better season.”
Throughout the basketball season, the FHS cheerleaders grew in numbers, skill, and team morale. The girls are looking forward to football next year, and will miss their seniors deeply next year.
