Diggin’ Themselves out of a Hole

The FHS Volleycats had a very rough start to the beginning of the season. Starting off with having three new coaches—Coach Downs, Coach Hall, and Coach Chazelle—the team lost a starting setter and outside hitter, senior Melissa Wulfert, due to injury. Several other injuries throughout the season caused freshman Kyndal Dodd and senior Emmaline Glore to sit out a few games and practices. The team played very hard considering all of the downfall they had. Their season is now 6-12-1.

Throughout this season they have played very competitively but cannot seem to pull out many wins. They are not upset about not winning as much this season as they did in the past. All they care about is playing hard as a team and making sure they have fun while doing it. The season has one game before the districts and conference tournaments. Tuesday October 9th they play against one of the hardest teams that we play during the season, Farmington. The team feels very nervous and excited about playing this opponent. Even knowing that Farmington will be very hard to beat, the Lady Blackcats will still put everything they have into this match.

Seniors Kaitlyn Coffman, Marrisa Hale, Katelyn White, Emmaline Glore, Melissa Wulfert, and Abby Parson have been very good role models for the underclassmen when the newer players had no idea what was going on. The seniors have played a huge role during this year if the community considers that the coaches had no idea who any of the players were or what positions they played at the start of the season.
